About the program
Post-high-school students from abroad, in a small overseas program inside an Israeli yeshiva gavoha (not hesder), whose Israeli students learn for several years before their army service.
A yeshiva gavoha in the religious yishuv of Mitzpe Yericho, in the Judean Desert overlooking the Dead Sea, with a small overseas program inside the larger Israeli yeshiva. Overseas students have a complete program in English with English-speaking rebbeim: Gemara iyun in the morning, Gemara bekiut with the yeshiva's own chazara method in the afternoon, and night seder in chavruta with older Israeli students, alongside shiurim on Tanach, halacha, Jewish philosophy, mussar, the thought of Rav Kook, Religious Zionism and Chasidut. The site describes its vision as learning in order to inspire, the unique Torah of Eretz Yisrael, and "a life of mission".

The year in detail
As their own website describes it. A missing heading means their site didn't say.
- Founded
- The yeshiva's English brochure (2024) says Rav Shabtai Sabato, a student of Rav Tzvi Yehuda Kook at Yeshivat Merkaz HaRav, founded the yeshiva thirty years ago in Mitzpe Yericho. Its Hebrew site calls the yeshiva gavoha "Maor Tuvia".
- Learning and the daily schedule
- Morning seder is Gemara iyun: a short preparation session, seder and shiur. Afternoon seder is Gemara bekiut (shiur, chavruta and chazara), covering a significant portion of Shas. Night seder is chavruta with older Israeli students, plus chaburot and a weekly gathering at a rebbe's home. Further shiurim cover halacha, Tanach, Mishna, emuna, middot, Jewish philosophy and Chasidut, and overseas students can also attend much of the Hebrew curriculum.
- Shabbat
- Two out of every three Shabbatot are "Shabbat Yeshiva", and students spend a number of the chagim in yeshiva. Tefillot have lively singing and dancing, the seudot have zemirot, and students gather for a tish with one of the rebbeim after the Shabbat evening meal; they are sometimes invited to eat with English-speaking families in the yishuv. Before chagim there are special shiurim and a hitva'adut, and students experience both Ashkenazi and Sephardi traditions.
- Trips
- A tiyul and excursion program visits sites from the times of Tanach, the Second Temple and Chazal through to the State of Israel today, including multi-day tiyulim and off-campus Shabbatonim.
- Campus and housing
- A large campus with a new beit midrash at the edge of the yishuv, classrooms, a computer room and a large dining hall, plus a gym, a music room, a soccer field, a basketball court and a cooking room. The site says the yishuv has about 600 families, a grocery store, a pizza store, a gym and a swimming pool, and is twenty-five minutes from Jerusalem by bus.
- Also on their site
- The brochure says some shiurim take place in the science laboratory, where Rav Sabato explains Torah concepts through scientific experiments. The yeshiva publishes its shiurim as a podcast.
